Exploring Magnetic Interactions in Magnetotactic Bacteria
An exploration of some of the physical principles behind the formation of magnetosome chains in magnetotactic bacteria, using the analogue of interacting super magnet beads. Comparison is made with the real magnetic structure of magnetosome chains observed using electron holography, with additional references to the behaviour of self-organising magnetic nanoparticles and genetically modified 'mutant' magnetotactic bacteria!
