while it is true underground fires can spread from mineral seam to mineral seam and root system to root system as in coal or other combustible materials, as i have seen this phenomenon in person, (you could just walk stick a twig into the ground at random and within a couple of seconds it would ignite), this in no way explains how it became lit only that it is lit, i submit to you that they are lighting underground seams detected by remote sensing equipment from orbit and lighting said seams with D.E.W to spread the fires into populated areas, as shown by the recently discovered multiple burning holes in the dirt with 8ft flames protruding from it with no source of ignition  detectable and no natural gas being given off, wake up #peace
