Rwandan government ministers unveiled robots intended to help during the COVID-19 outbreak in Kigali on Friday.
The Minister of Health Daniel Ngamije and the Minister of ICT and Innovation Paula Ingabire presented the five smart anti-epidemic robots at the Kanyinya Health Centre.
The bots named Akazuba, Ikirezi, Mwiza, Ngabo and Urumuri were donated by the United Nations Development Program (UNPD) to the centre where coronavirus patients are treated in the Rwandan capital.
"These robots will perform temperature screening in our treatment centres," Ngamije explained, so "they will detect people walking in treatment centres not wearing masks," with a voice alerting the person to please use one.
"Reducing the risk of contamination at the centre" was an important benefit of the robots he added.
Ingabire saluted this "new technology that's being used everywhere, especially in developed countries," after showcasing the bots actions, such as providing medicine, food, and COVID-19 tests or communicating with a patient when a doctor is not around.
