Artist fights oppression with blood-donor work
Valentine's Day was hijacked with blood-soaked phrases from donors. Andrei Molodkin's 'Bloodline' opened in Dublin and uses blood donated by visitors to bring to life quotes from social media. Each of the pieces is created from a transparent plexiglass form. The sentences are only visible when blood starts circulating through the plexiglass. A medical pump circulates the blood through each sentence at a rhythm that imitates a human heartbeat. Visitors were faced with such words as: 'This artwork is an act of international terrorism' and 'This text converts you into a suicide bomber.' The show will run five weeks and focuses on fighting "censorship", exploring the power of the political statements and how "the system uses the hard words and messages," according to Russian artist Molodkin.
