Ancient Architects
This video is thanks to corresponding with a viewer of the Ancient Architects channel on Twitter, T Reynolds, who has an MLIS and an MA in Cultural Landscapes, who pointed out a number of features on old maps of Giza that were worthy of investigation. One of the maps in question was created by John Perring in 1837 and was included in the first volume of 'Operations Carried On at the Pyramids of Giza', co-written by Perring with Howard Vyse and between the two boat pits on the eastern side of the Pyramid, before you reach the trial passages, which are marked, is an area of ground labelled ‘Inclined Passages’. This area was been built over in the 1940s with a royal rest house, built by King Farouk of Egypt, a building that is now a ruin, with huge cracks and at risk of collapse. But why was it built here? Right next to the Great Pyramid of Egypt, on an area of ground labelled 'Inclined Passages' by John Perring in the 1830s? Is there a mystery to unravel or is it all easy to explain? In this video, I also identify another strange structure on the Giza Plateau - an ancient wall in South Giza, close to 1st to 3rd Dynasty mastabas of important Old Kingdom officials. Furthermore, Google Maps identifies the area has been excavated.
