Mandatory Credit: New York State New York State Governor Andrew Cuomo announced that the end of the statewide closure will be on Friday, May 15 in a daily COVID-19 briefing held in Rochester city on Monday. "The question is now going to shift more towards localities and regions across the state to make sure they are in the position to open. The state will be working in coordination with them, but it is an exciting new phase, we are all anxious to go back to work," Cuomo stated, stressing "We want to do it smartly, we want to do it intelligently but we wanna do it." Cuomo urged local and regional authorities to begin with preparations, stressing that each locality will open only after reassuring it complies with all the safety requirements. However, certain activities will be allowed to reopen statewide without regional restrictions, such as "landscaping, gardening, low-risk recreational activities like tennis; drive-in theatres," Cuomo said.
