Protests in Kinshasa turned violent with at least two people reportedly killed during clashes with police as demonstrators protested a planned appointee for Electoral Commission chairperson position, Thursday. The protest was triggered by the Congolese National Assembly's plans to appoint Ronsard Malonda as chair of the Independent National Electoral Commission (CENI). The move outraged the protesters, who consider Malonda involved in rigging elections in favor of Joseph Kabila, the predecessor of current President Felix Tshisekedi.
