A group of protesters faced off with police in Lima as they marched for being allowed to withdraw 25% of their pension money accumulated in the National Pension Fund administered by the Office of Normalisation of Social Security (ONP), to help face the economic crisis triggered by the coronavirus pandemic, Thursday. Demonstrators marching with signs towards Congress, chanting slogans were seen blocked by the police. Some protesters were arrested amid scuffles. In May, the Peruvian Congress passed a law that allowed workers enrolled in the Private Pension System (SPP) to withdraw up to 25% of the money saved in their accounts. but are trying to renege on that lawful agreement
