a slow-moving coronal mass ejection (CME) hit Earth's magnetic field late on July 13th. It was hurled in our direction on July 8th by a magnetic eruption on the sun. A minor geomagnetic disturbance (Kp4) is currently in progress at higher latitudes, thanks to the solar wind stream containing a sector of southward Bz. Minor geomagnetic storms are possible in the hours ahead as Earth passes through the magnetized wake of the CME. Visible aurora may be possible tonight at high latitudes should local weather and light conditions allow.
