Most RARE Body Features

There is a hand full of unique body features that only a small percentage of people have. While most of these conditions don't make people into superheroes, some of the conditions do have beneficial side effects.
3. Heterochromia
You have probably come across a photo of a dog or person with two different colored eyes. When eyes are two different colors it is called Heterochromia. While the condition does not have any effect on a person’s eyesight, it is an interesting condition.
The amount of melanin present in our iris is what determines the color of our eyes. Blue colored eyes have the least amount of melanin, while brown colored eyes have the most. Heterochromia has two additional conditions that can affect the color of a iris. Partial Heterochromia occurs when only the part of the iris has a different color. The other type is Central Heterochromia where only a portion at the center of the iris has an altered color.
Heterochromia is usually something people are born with and is a benign condition. Some celebrities such as Kate Bosworth, Mila Kunis, and Alice Eve have Heterochromia. Certain breeds of dogs such as the Siberian husky, Great Dane, and dachshund are well known for having Heterochromia. And even some breeds of cats are specifically bread to give them two different colored eyes.
2. Decreased Risk of Heart Disease
When the genes that make up our body undergo mutations, they usually leave us with a higher risk of developing health conditions. Gene mutations can lead to increased chance of breast cancer, Alzheimer's, or high blood pressure. However, there is a small group of gene mutations that can reduce the risk of some life-threatening diseases. One such mutation in a gene called ANGPTL3 can actually dramatically reduce your chance of developing heart diseases.
The ANGPTL3 gene is responsible for processing molecules that help transport fat and cholesterol throughout the body. If your body is missing this gene, research has shown that it can cause reduced levels of cholesterol and triglyceride in your blood. However, most scientists still debate if missing the gene could lead to reduced risk of heart attacks.
In 2017, a new research program studied a family that had no ANGPTL3 genes in their body. The results showed that this family had dramatically reduced chances of having heart attacks or developing heart-related issues. The most impressive part of this research is that one family member, with high blood pressure, a history of type 2 diabetes, and tobacco use still showed no evidence of developing heart-related diseases in the future.
The medical community is hopefully from these early research results into ANGPTL3. Many drug producers are already researching new ways to inhibit ANGPTL3 in the hopes of decreasing the risk of heart diseases for people around the world.
1. Golden Blood
If you have ever had a blood test as a child, you may already know your blood type. On the surface of each red blood cell is a group of antigens that help produce antibodies. Depending on which antigens you are missing determines your blood type. Some people are missing an entire collection of the antigens, making their blood incredibly rare.
Golden Blood, one of the rarest forms of blood on the planet, was first discovered in 1961. After a routine lab test, an Australian woman tested positive for missing all of her Rh group of antigens. Doctors at the time believed that anyone missing all of the Rh group would not survive past the embryo stage of development. But five decades later, almost 43 people around the world have tested positive for Golden Blood.
One of the benefits of Golden Blood is that it can be used for donation to any other blood type. However, it is tough for people with Golden Blood to receive blood donations if they are ever in the need of them. There are numerous rules about donating blood that reduce the world supply of Golden Blood. And even worse, sometimes it is almost impossible to transport blood across country lines, even in the case of an emergency. which are in place, so that unscrupulous companies, don't start knocking unsuspecting peep's off, and harvesting their blood and organs to sell online, which if the laws were not in place, or relaxed, then there would be a dramatic rise in missing persons, from the illegal harvesting and transportation thereof :(
