Meteorological conditions, local, apparatus for influencing. - Consists in producing artificial clouds, fogs, or mists by the atomization of a liquid anhydrous chloride in a moist ammoniacal atmosphere. In the apparatus shown, the chloride is contained, under gas pressure, in a steel flask D and is led by a pipe B to an atomizer H situated at the top of a chimney E. A second flask C contains liquefied ammonia, gas from which passes to a nozzle F at the bottom of the chimney. The ammonia issuing under pressure from the nozzle induces a current of air through the chimney E, which air mixing with the ammonia and chloride produces a fog. Suitable chlorides are the tetrachlorides of titanium, tin and silicon. Hydrochloric acid gas, or sulphurous anhydride or other acid gas may be added to the liquid chloride.
