Traffic policemen were also seen watching the queue move towards the gates. Wuhan, the epicentre of the pandemic, managed to slow down its death rate in late March, with no new deaths reported in the whole of China as of Tuesday, April 7. Local authorities began easing restrictions in Wuhan after almost 7,000 residential compounds were classified as "epidemic-free," allowing their residents to leave their homes for two hours at a time. According to data compiled by China's National Health Commission, mainland China reported a total of 81,740 confirmed cases of COVID-19, with 77,167 recoveries and 3,331 coronavirus-related fatalities as of Tuesday, April 7.
