Belarus: Minsk citizens call for factory workers to strike

Dozens of Minsk citizens gathered near two buildings of the Atlant and Belkommunmash companies, calling its workers to strike, on Tuesday. Footage filmed on the grounds of the Belkommunmash building shows people, including 20 factory workers chanting the slogans. A staff member said that factory employees were locked up inside the building, but they support protesters. "They locked the turnstile, don't allow to leave. They must resolve it soon," she said. "The whole factory with us, we are with you." A similar rally took place near Atlant's refrigerator factory in Minsk, where three employees joined the protest and people chanted, "Thank you." One of the workers held the symbol of the Belorussian opposition - a white, red and white flag - said the volume of factory work is huge and the process can't be stopped. Belarus has been swept by anti-government protests following the August 9 disputed presidential election that saw Lukashenko re-elected for a sixth term.
