One of Germany's largest coronavirus vaccination is set to open in a Dusseldorf football stadium, as could be seen on Sunday. The Merkul Spiel Arena, where the Fortuna Dusseldorf football team play, has been transformed into a centre that can host vaccinations ahead of the expected upcoming approval of Pfizer and BioNTech's COVID-19 vaccine by the European Medicines Agency (EMA). Dusseldorf's Mayor Stephan Keller was seen at the centre on Sunday, welcoming the media and discussing the vaccination process. "As soon as the vaccine is approved and ready for distribution we will be able to vaccinate up to 2,400 people per day," said Keller. The vaccination centre is set to open on December 15 while the EMA has stated that it intends to review and approve the Pfizer vaccine by December 29 at the latest. On Sunday, the German government announced that lockdown restrictions would be further tightened from Wednesday, with non-essential businesses, as well as schools and creches set to close across the country until at least January 10. As of Sunday there were 20,200 new cases of coronavirus reported in the last 24 hours, with 321 related deaths over the same period, while the 7-day incidence per 100,000 inhabitants was at 169.1, in Germany, according to data collected by the Robert Koch Institute. The German government has stated that its target is at most 50 new cases per 100,000 residents over a seven day period in order to allow contact tracing systems to function. #wakeup
