Myanmar: Yangon locals hold noise protest against military coup for seco...

Ruptly
residents protested Myanmar's military coup for the second night in a row banging pots and pans, clapping loudly and flashing lights from their balconies, as seen on Wednesday. Cars could also be seen joining the noise barrage campaign with blaring horns. The demonstration comes two days after the army ousted the ruling National League for Democracy (NLD) from power, arresting its leader Aung San Suu Kyi and other senior officials. The army declared a state of emergency in response to alleged fraud during the legislative elections in November 2020. The UN condemned the arrests, saying that 'these developments represent a serious blow to democratic reforms in Myanmar.' The US threatened to 'take action against those responsible' for the coup and detentions 'if these steps are not reversed.' The move by Myanmar's military came on the day the new parliament was set to convene for the first time following the legislative elections. #Yangon#MyanmarCoup#Myanmar
