Supporters of incumbent Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko gathered for a rally under a motto "Women for unity and peace," in Minsk, on Thursday. The rally took place in the square in front of the department store "Belarus." The participants were holding state red-green flags and chanting "Hands off Belarus." According to media reports, local authorities also joined the event with artists performing on stage. Belarus has been swept by pro-government and anti-government protests following the disputed presidential election on August 9 that saw five-term incumbent Lukashenko re-elected.
