ukrainian streets raged a twitter

account at ua weapons reported that

ukrainian soldiers had recovered a

bizarre container which had seemingly

been abandoned by occupying russian

mysterious object which naturally was

presumed to be a weapon of some sort

whatever it was it showed signs of

damage and had clearly seen some combat

upon examination of the photographs the

exterior of the box was seen to be

comparable to a small shipping container

but the interior told a very different

story

the contents of the box revealed it to

be a component of a krasuka iv

electronic warfare system specifically

the command module

ominously krasuka translates to baladana

or deadly nightshade in russian

as a ground-based electronic warfare

system its primary role is to intercept

and scramble airborne radio signals

radars and reconnaissance satellites

the krasuka 4 is recognized as a

particularly powerful jamming instrument

one which is capable of interfering with

signals over long distances and even in

some cases physically damaging

electronic equipment

the specific command module in question

was found lying on its side deep in

ukrainian territory and partially

obscured from view by tree branches

making it unlikely to be seen by aerial

reconnaissance

concealment represents a deliberate

attempt by the russians to hide this

container for fear of surrendering

valuable intel to ukraine and its allies

or whether this is simply where the unit

came to rest following an accident or

conflict

russian iskander m missile and

attempting to identify the purpose of

circular caps found in the back of the

missiles

in the identification of the previously

missiles may be potential decoy devices

the purpose of a decoy in the context of

aerial warfare is as a countermeasure to

jamming systems which are designed to

scramble signals and intercept missiles

therefore by deploying decoy devices at

the correct moment the missile vastly

improved its chances of reaching the

primary target

it was eventually confirmed that the

circular caps seen at the back of

iskander missiles are for the storage

and deployment of decoy penetration aids

and that they correspond to the diameter

putting that information together it

became clear that the decoy munitions

which were being found had in fact come

from the tail end of the iskander

missiles being used to hammer ukrainian

troops and towns

however while this explanation seemed to

make sense something didn't quite add up

as ukraine doesn't have the capabilities

to intercept iskandar missiles in the

first place it remains a mystery as to

why russia would use these new decoy

systems and potentially reveal their

technological secrets

it represents a strange and curious

tactical decision

one which we are yet to understand

croatia's capital city zagreb were

awoken by the ear splitting sound of an

explosion

emerging from their homes locals found a

crater scattered with debris

fortunately nobody was hurt but

questions were raised

what had caused such an explosion and

was it something to do with the fighting

over a thousand kilometers away in

ukraine

croatia is after all uninvolved in the

conflict and it doesn't even share a

border with ukraine

scouring the wreckage officials came to

believe that they were looking at the

remains of a soviet-era tu-141 aircraft

a drone typically employed by the

ukrainian army for reconnaissance

however upon closer inspection explosive

traces and bomb components were found

fortunately as it crashed into soft

earth the explosion had detonated

underground thus minimizing damage to

the surrounding area

zagreb's mayor thomaslav tamashevich

commented that it was quote amazing that

no one was hurt and noted the

unprecedented nature of the occurrence

it was promised that an investigation

into the origins of the mysterious and

potentially deadly drone would take

place

while ukraine is the only country that

still officially uses these 1970s soviet

drones the ukrainian ambassador to

croatia insisted that the drone did not

belong to the ukrainian military and

markings found on the wreck would later

confirm this

one source hypothesized that the drone

may have been deployed by russian troops

and programmed to fly to the yarun

region of ukraine

according to this theory a simple gps

programming error led the drone to the

similar sounding jaroon neighborhood of

zagreb

however this explanation seemed too

simple too convenient for others

even more baffling than the drone's

origin is the question of how despite

being unsophisticated and outdated while

also weighing six tons and carrying 120

kilogram bomb it successfully navigated

the airspaces of three nato countries

without being detected or intercepted

to this day

methods of evasion remain unknown

for short-range warfare only

after matching the debris to photographs

taken at russian warfare equipment

parades it was confirmed and reported by

material losses in the russian war on

ukraine

that the ruined vehicle was in fact a

one-of-a-kind t-80 um2 prototype tank

the t-80 um-2 is a completely unique

vehicle known to be part of a new tank

development project along with another

rare machine named the black eagle with

which it has a great deal in common

photographic evidence of the russian

loss clearly shows the prototype tank

with a burnt out hull and its turret

completely detached

considered to take the place of the

russian army's main battle tank in which

case it would be mass-produced

prototype into the fray of battle as

one-offs and unique or experimental

weapons are rarely used in practical

In the region of Istra, about 40 miles from Moscow, stands a towering structure that rises above the forests and marks a technological highpoint in Soviet machinery.

This is the Istra Marx Generator, and it is believed to be the largest generator of its kind in the world. Utilizing a series of electrical capacitors, it was able to turn energy from a low-voltage power supply into intense bolts of artificial lightning in order to test the lightning resistance of Soviet aircraft.

Built by the Russian Electrical Engineering Institute in the 1970s as part of the Istra High Voltage Research Center, this strange installation consists of a maze of tubes and cylinders, similar in appearance to a network of Tesla Coils.

Allegedly, it’s power output was so powerful that it formed lightning bolts hundreds of feet long with more concentrated levels of energy - present for just a fraction of a second – than all of Russia’s nuclear, hydro, thermal, gas, coal, wind, and solar-generated power combined.

In the 1980s, the location was also home to a facility called ‘Allure’, which was built to test and develop large weapons capable of generating electromagnetic pulses to devastate enemy technologies. 

However, this ill-fated facility met its end when the dome-shaped structure collapsed, and its commander was banished to a remote post as punishment. He was replaced by Boris Yeltsin, who would later become Russia’s first president.

Although officially abandoned in the 1990s, to this day, the Istra Marx Generator is still fenced off and guarded with dogs. Despite this, a few holes in the fence have enabled urban explorers to venture in, but they do so at great risk. 

For reasons unknown, the Istra Marx Generator tower is still occasionally turned on, and explorers report witnessing immense displays of electrical power.

In 1958, Cold War tensions were simmering, and the Soviets appeared to be winning the all-important space race, thanks to their successful launch of Sputnik 1 the previous year. 

Fearful of a demoralized public in the face of Soviet success, the United States government responded with a program named ‘A Study of Lunar Research Flights,’ AKA ‘Project A119’.

This project, which remained top secret and highly guarded by the government and military for many years, sought to make a statement -- an unprecedented demonstration of power that the world would never forget.

The plan was to detonate a nuclear device on the surface of the moon.

While bombing the moon would have answered some astro geological and astronomical questions which puzzled NASA at the time, the main goal was to create an explosion so immense that it could be perceived by the naked human eye all the way from Earth, thereby demonstrating the might of the American nuclear and space programs.

Despite the brutal nature of this gesture, precision would be needed; it was essential that the bomb did not detonate inside an existing crater, or else Earth’s view of it would be obscured. 

Some concerns were raised, such as the formation of nuclear fallout on the moon, which would render it uninhabitable should mankind wish to colonize it in the near future. Another potential issue was that the execution of this plan may have led to the widespread militarization of space, further escalating geopolitical tensions. A large enough explosion may even have directed debris toward Earth.

Amongst the small team assembled to put the plan into action was a young Carl Sagan, who was tasked with predicting the effects of a nuclear explosion in a low-gravity vacuum.

It was decided that a conventional hydrogen bomb would have been too heavy to propel, so a 1.7-kiloton W25 missile was chosen. The W25 was to detonate on the shadowed portion of the moon facing Earth, creating a cloud of dust that would catch the sun’s light and therefore be visible.

Development moved quickly, and the launch was predicted to be ready by the following year.

Ultimately, the launch of the W25 never went ahead, with one statement claiming that “Air Force officials decided its risks outweighed its benefits.” NASA and the government instead decided to focus on landing a man on the moon, which they knew would be a more popular accomplishment with the people.

Documents pertaining to Project A119 were revealed following a freedom of information request in 1999, but the US government has never formally acknowledged its involvement. A British nuclear historian stated years later that, quote, "had they gone ahead, we would never have had the romantic image of Neil Armstrong taking 'one giant leap for mankind.'"
