New type of antenna works as a military weapon

A new type of antenna will be introduced at the same time as the rollout of 5G. The technique used here has different names: Beamforming [v1] , Massive Mimo [v5] or Phased Array antennas [v6] . The three names each highlight a different facet of the technology, but cannot be separated from each other.

Massive MIMO / beamforming is currently already being used in the Netherlands, also on the 2, 3 and 4G network. It is “5G functionality”, but the use of this technique is not reserved for 5G and can be rolled out separately. The first antenna with Beamforming that was installed in the Netherlands is located in Amsterdam on Leidseplein.
More efficiently targeted radiation


Beamforming allows beams of radiation to be aimed at specific areas. Until now, a large area has been filled with radiation in the communication between mobile phone and antenna. This caused a lot of unnecessary radiation. With the new antennas, the radiation can be limited to only the area around the caller. This is more efficient and better for the environment. It is also necessary to be able to process the growing data traffic (partly due to the Internet of Things).
Military weapon


The beamforming technique originates from the Military Industry. There, beamforming is referred to as 'Active Denial system'. A beam of radiation of 95 GHz. is used there to check individuals or groups of people. Two seconds of radiation is enough to warm the skin to 55 degrees Celsius. The instinctual response is then to run away immediately.

ADS is sometimes confused with LRAD. LRAD is a long-range police acoustic device. Here, acoustic signals are aimed at demonstrators. In shape both weapons look the same, in operation they are different.

With Beamforming as 5G functionality, beams of electromagnetic radiation are used, although not at 95 GHz, but the plans for 5G are already in the Gigahertz range, on the frequencies: 1.4 GHz. - 2.1 GHz. - 3.5 GHz. - 26 GHz. - 60 GHz.
No guarantees against misuse


It is unclear who is pulling the strings behind the scenes. The battle between America, NATO and China makes it clear that the rollout of 5G has an important military component. Defense Minister Ank Bijleveld has agreed that 5G can be used as a weapon [v3] . State Secretary Mona Keijzer has said in the Lower House that 5G can be used as a method for Crowd control [v4] .

Beamforming is a dangerous technique, potentially a weapon. As long as it is not guaranteed that this will not be abused, its rollout is highly undesirable.
Health aspects


The effects of these beams are more difficult to measure. A large user of data will experience a lot of radiation, from both antenna and source device (smart phone, car or device). But what are the effects on humans or animals if they cross the path of a bundle? Much is still unclear, the Antennebureau itself says.

There are already research results of the effects of the high-frequency signals from 5G. It showed that the skin of humans [v7] and the antennae of insects overheated. There are now several studies into the effects of 5G, which have produced alarming results.
